Testing for Lead in Drinking Water in Schools: Two IMPORTANT Notices

Date: May 13, 2019

Dear School Official:

As the 2018-2019 school year comes to a close, we wish to advise schools that are subject to lead testing under COMAR 26.16.07 "Lead in Drinking Water –Public and Nonpublic Schools" of the following important notices:

1.  This is a reminder that your school or school system’s initial round of testing for lead in the drinking water, if applicable, must be completed by July 1, 2019, and the testing must be conducted while school is in regular session.  This includes any school that received a twelve-month deferral from an initial testing deadline of July 1, 2018, and any school built 1989 or later serving students in grades 6 - 8.  Please see the two tables below for specifics:

2.  This is to inform you that, effective May 13, 2019, MDE will no longer be able to accept lead test results submitted using MDE’s original spreadsheet.  Results must now be submitted using the 120WaterAudit Electronic Data Deliverable (EDD) spreadsheet  (see attached).  The EDD, and all other required reporting forms, may be found on the Water Supply Program’s Testing for Lead in Drinking Water in Schools web page under the "Important Forms" section.

The completed EDD must be emailed directly to 120WaterAudit at:

mde-results@120wateraudit.com

Please note that this EDD is an interim measure, is functionally very similar to MDE’s original spreadsheet, and will be replaced in the near future with an EDD that is more streamlined.  Submitting your results to 120WaterAudit using the EDD will fulfill the requirement to report lead test results to all required State and local agencies.  The first sheet in the attached EDD contains instructions.

Please be advised that this regulation applies to all public and nonpublic schools that receive drinking water from a public utility.  If you have any questions about either of these notices, please contact Georgella Samu, Tim Rule, or Christina Ardito at 410-537-3729.  If you have technical questions about the new EDD or the 120WaterAudit platform, please contact 120WaterAudit support at support@120wateraudit.com or call 888-317-1510.

We appreciate your school's efforts in implementing this new regulation.

Sincerely,

Christina Ardito
