38. SHA/Bounds

Introduction

The State Highway Administration/Bounds Property is a 20 acre (10 acres forested, 5 acres scrub-shrub, 5 acres emergent) wetland restoration located in the Pocomoke River Area - Upper Pocomoke River (02-13-02-02) watershed of Worcester County.

Construction

This site was constructed from agricultural land in 2001 through a joint effort between the Maryland Department of the Environment and SHA.  It was planted and seeded in Spring 2002, but all of the trees died.   The site was replanted in Spring 2005, Spring 2006, and Spring 2008.

Status

While the site has sufficient wetland hydrology and seems to be establishing well as a wetland, excessive deer browse has made it extremely difficult for the trees to survive.   This site still provides valuable wetland functions to the landscape.  This site is located on private property.
