Introduction

This site is a 6.1 acre (3 acres forested, 1 acre scrub-shrub, 2.1 acres emergent) wetland restoration located in the Coastal Area - Chincoteague Bay (02-13-01-06) watershed of Worcester County.

Construction

Between Fall 2001 and Spring 2002, the Maryland Department of the Environment, in conjunction with the landowner and the Worcester Soil Conservation District converted this previously drained agricultural land back to wetland through grading and planting.

Status

The landowner wanted open water, so the site has more open water than preferred by MDE.  This site is on private property.
