Introduction

This site is a 2.5 acre scrub-shrub wetland creation located in the Gunpowder River Area - Little Gunpowder Falls (02-13-08-04) watershed of Baltimore County.

Construction

In Fall 2001, the Maryland Department of the Environment, in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources, coordinated the construction of this wetland out of existing agricultural land.

Status

This site has developed into a successful wetland system. Using the newly developed Mitigation Site Scoring Method, MDE gave this site a score of 86/100.  This site had lower tree/shrub densities than desired, but still provides moderate wetland functions including filtering sediment/pollutants and reducing floodwater flow.  It also provides habitat for amphibians, as seen by the presence of treefrogs.  This project is on private property.
