Operator Guidance

Photo of a glass of drinking waterAll community and non-transient non-community public water systems must employ a certified operator.  Transient non-community water systems that use surface water or groundwater under the direct influence of surface water also  must have a certified operator.  The Maryland Board of Waterworks and Waste Systems Operators establishes standards for operators, and is responsible for issuing certifications.  For more information:

The Water Supply Program provides funding to three different training organizations that offer training free of charge to operators of systems that serve fewer than 3,300 persons.  For more information, contact these organizations directly:
