General Discharge Permit For Storm Water Discharges Associated With Industrial Activity
Status of Tentative Permit Determination
The Department is proposing to reissue the General Permit for Storm Water Discharges from Industrial Activities; General Permit No. 12-SW. The Department held public hearings concerning the proposed permit on Monday, November 26, 2012 and Friday, November 30, 2012. A copy of the draft permit overview presentation made at the hearings is available here.
The comment period for the proposed permit closed on January 4, 2013. The previous comment period satisfied the tentative permit requirements for public participation. The Department is preparing a final permit determination and is now informally seeking comments limited to the specific items detailed in the notice listed below prior to issuing a final permit. Such comments may be submitted to the Department no later than close of business Friday, May 20, 2013.
The next step will be for the Department to review the comments and to issue a final determination. We do not have a definitive date for when the final determination will be published. However, our current plan is to complete a final determination before the end of the summer. Application forms (i.e. Notices of Intent for coverage) will not be posted or distributed until the permit is made final.
For informational purposes, copies of the draft permit and fact sheet are now available for view. Click any of the choices below to access the corresponding pdf file:

Current Effective Permit - General Permit No. 02-SW (MDE/WMA/PER.004)
The storm water permit was administratively extended in November, 2007. Facilities that were permitted prior to that time continue to be regulated by the permit and their storm water pollution prevention plans, and the terms of the permit, including those for obtaining permit coverage, continue in full force and effect. |
