Brownfields Redevelopment Initiative - Site Requirements

Sites Eligible for EPA funding must be:

  • vacant or underutilized, where remediation is feasible and where redevelopment will create jobs and improve the local tax.

Not all sites are eligible for the Brownfields Program.  Ineligible properties are those:

  • that are on the National Priorities List with known contamination;
  • sites under MDE enforcement;
  • sites that are primarily contaminated by petroleum products.

These exclusions are intended to eliminate the most severely contaminated sites, sites regulated under other authority and newly contaminated properties.

If you would like to recommend a site for the Brownfields Initiative Program or have any questions, please fill out the Contact Us form.
