Underground Storage Tanks

The Oil Control Program has highly trained staff to help companies and individuals ensure that their Underground Storage Tanks (USTs) are in compliance with State and federal regulations. Click here for UST Compliance Outline to determine the requirements for your tank.

The Oil Control program administers several certification programs to ensure UST Removers, Technicians and Inspectors are qualified to perform this work.  For additional information, click here for UST Certification Programs.

All regulated USTs within Maryland are required to be registered through the Underground Storage Tank Notification Program. Click here for Tank Registration Forms.

NEW:A search tool (http://167.102.133.155/facilitysummary/Default.aspx) has been developed to assist you in locating underground storage tank facilities.  When the page opens, use one or any combination of the 6 parameters to search for an UST facility.  Click on "View Report" to open or save the facility report and you also have the option of printing the report.

All USTs storing motor fuels, used oil or bulk heating oil should have been upgraded or replaced by December 1998 to specific technical standards or removed from the ground. Some basic upgrade requirements are spill protection, overfill protection, and corrosion protection.

Should an UST leak, the Oil Control Program oversees the cleanup. The objective of reporting leaks and cleaning up leaks is to assure the protection of Maryland citizens and environment. The following publications will help you if you suspect or have a leaking underground storage tank system.
