MDE FY 2013 Annual Enforcement and Compliance Report Shows Department Maintains High Level of Enforcement Activity

The FY 2013 report is MDE's 17th annual Enforcement and Compliance Report. Environmental enforcement has been a priority from the beginning of the O'Malley-Brown Administration. From fiscal years 2008-13, the Department took 16,203 enforcement actions and collected more than $28,000,000 in penalties. The number of enforcement actions increased nearly 50%, and the penalties collected more than doubled, when compared to the previous six-year period.
